Jordan Scarlett’s freshman season has come to an abrupt end.
According to 247Sports’ GatorBait.net, Scarlett has been suspended for the Citrus Bowl after being cited for marijuana possession. He was arrested on Dec. 19 for misdemeanor marijuana possession at his dorm room — the Keys Residential Complex on UF’s campus.
According to Alachua County court records, Scarlett is set to appear in court on Jan. 6 at 9 a.m.
After being a highly touted recruit out of Ft. Lauderdale’s St. Thomas Aquinas High School — the No. 118 player in the country according to 247Sports — Scarlett has had an up-and-down freshman campaign. Coach Jim McElwain has benched him because of poor practice habits on a number of occasions.
Scarlett seemed to turn the corner during the Gators’ 27-3 win against Georgia on Oct. 31, rushing for 96 yards on just eight carries. But his production has slipped from there.
Scarlett ranks third on the team with 181 rushing yards and a touchdown on 34 carries.
He is the third UF player to be suspended for the game against Michigan on New Year’s Day, joining offensive lineman Mason Halter and linebacker Anthony Harrell, who were ruled academically ineligible for the game.
