UF’s home page has received a face-lift.

A new design for the website ufl.edu was launched early this morning. Interim Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Creative Services for University Relations Nicole Yucht said the redesign was needed, as the site hadn’t been changed since 2008.

The new design will make the home page accessible from mobile devices and tablets, and it will include more photos, a public alerts section, and student, faculty, staff and alumni bios, she said. The redesign is part of UF’s rebranding campaign, "For the Gator Good." The website was funded through a $700,000 private campaign. The exact cost of the website has not been determined.

"We’re trying to take a tone that’s reflective of the University of Florida and how we are motivated to help others and address challenges of the world," Yucht said.

For now, just the home page is being redesigned, Yucht said. However, individual colleges and departments will be receiving templates for their websites in the coming months to migrate over to the new design.

UF animal sciences sophomore Emily Rue said she thought the home page was in need of a redesign. She thought the old website was confusing.

"When I was in high school and I tried to look up majors, I had to go through so many links just to find things," the 19-year-old said.

Yucht said the new website will include content that shows how UF’s research is making an impact on the world.

"It’ll give a lot better idea of what actually happens here," she said.
