UF students will laugh with one of the brains behind "Modern Family," "Parks and Recreation" and "Master of None" on Friday night.
Comedian Joe Mande, who writes for TV sitcoms, will perform a stand-up set in the Reitz Union Grand Ballroom at 9:30 p.m. during GatorNights on Friday.
Mande has also written the book "Look at This F------ Hipster" and appeared on "Conan" and "Late Night with Seth Meyers." The GatorNights event is free for students, who can bring one guest. Mande will be paid $5,000 to perform, said Kaitlin Milligan, a director of speakers and comedians for Reitz Union Board Entertainment.
GatorNights is bringing Mande to help students de-stress as part of this week’s theme, "Don’t lose your zen," Milligan, 21, said.
"The stand-up show (will help students) to kind of just have fun and relax before exams," the telecommunication production junior said.
Michele Kuhn, a UF advertising sophomore, said she’s excited to see Mande because she thinks he’s an engaging entertainer. She’s seen Mande once before at the Plaza Live in Orlando.
"He’s funny, has good energy, and it should be a really exciting night," the 19-year-old said.
UF telecommunication production senior Jose Cervantes is also a fan of Mande’s. He said the comedian is a funny person to follow on Twitter.
"I’m excited for (Mande’s stand-up) because I know he’s a good writer," the 22-year-old said.
