No. 20 Florida is one day away from finishing the Fall with their first team win of the season.
Coach Emily Glaser and the women’s golf team remained in first place at the Alamo Invitational after recording the lowest team score of the second round. UF holds a commanding six-stroke lead over second-place Southeastern Conference rival No. 7 Arkansas at Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas.
Junior Maria Torres shot a 2-under 70 on Monday to put herself in a tie for first place with Arkansas’ Regina Plasencia at 3-under for the tournament.
Junior Karolina Vlckova matched a career best 4-under 68 and heads into Tuesday’s round tied for fifth at even-par.
Junior transfer Sydney Needham -- who’s competing as an individual -- shot even-par Monday and put herself in a tie for 8th place at 1-over for the tournament.
Junior Kelly Grassel and sophomore Taylor Tomlinson find themselves tied for 20th at 4-over, and freshman Sam Wagner is tied for 25th at 5-over.
“We came out fighting,” Glaser said in a release. “And I’m happy with the toughness we showed, especially towards the end of the round.
“Everyone, no matter if they were playing solid or struggling a bit, kept grinding, and that trait will serve us well now and down the road.”
When Glaser says everyone, she means everyone. All six Gator golfers in San Antonio are tied for 25th or better.
The third and final round will begin today at 9:45 a.m. with a shotgun start.
“Tomorrow will be a fun day, and I’m excited for the team to be in this position,” Glaser said.
