The Florida football team has had its share of kicking woes this year, and now the team is looking for some help.
The Gators announced on Monday that they are holding walk-on tryouts in search of place kickers since Austin Hardin and Jorge Powell have dealt with their share of injuries and inconsistencies making field goals.
The Florida recruiting office tweeted out on Monday: "All calls for kickers! #Gators are looking for walk-on kickers. Visit the football office today by 4:30 p.m. to sign up for a tryout."
Neither kicker on the team has impressed so far through seven games. Hardin began the season as the starter and was 3-of-3 but missed his next three attempts before being sidelined with a right leg injury. The Atlanta native also has the team’s longest field goal this season at 37 yards.
Powell, a walk-on himself, filled in the last four games after Hardin’s injury and made 2-of-3 field goals, while also missing an extra point.
He was injured during a kickoff in the first quarter of Florida’s 35-28 loss to LSU on Saturday and was helped off of the field by trainers.
Powell was seen after the game on crutches and he will miss an unspecified amount time.
The Gators’ 55.6 percent field goal percentage is tied for 114th in the nation out of 128 teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
