Queen Victoria will be strutting through the Gainesville Woman’s Club — or at least a model dressed like her will.
On Thursday, Climb for Cancer, a nonprofit that fundraises for oncology programs, will host a time-period-based fashion show at the Gainesville Woman’s Club, located at 2809 W. University Ave., from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The fashion show will feature historical medical figures, said Dianne Farb, the organization’s co-founder. The lineup includes Elizabeth Blackwell, America’s first female doctor; Queen Victoria, who endorsed medical programs; and the wife of William Shands, the namesake of UF Health Shands Hospital.
Farb said the organization hopes to raise at least $5,000 for UF Health’s oncofertility programs, which provide guidance about fertility after chemotherapy.
Farb said her friend Dr. Alice Rhoton-Vlasak, the head of UF Health’s oncofertility programs, came to her with the fashion-show fundraiser idea.
UF sustainability studies freshman Abigail Vlasak, Rhoton-Vlasak’s daughter, said she is excited to model a few of the 31 outfits.
“It’s almost like dress-up,” the 18-year-old said.
Tickets are $60 and can be purchased on Climb for Cancer’s website.
