Gainesville Police arrested a local man early Tuesday morning after he reportedly tried to hide cocaine and escape arrest.

About 3 a.m. Tuesday, Alderious J. White, 21, reportedly hit the gas on his four-door Pontiac when an officer tried to pull him over, according to a police report.

A light hung over White’s license plate, making it hard to see and causing the officer to flash his lights at the corner of Northwest Fourth Avenue and Northwest 13th Street, according to the report.

White eventually got out and ran from his car, jumping two fences before getting arrested on Northwest Fifth Avenue.

Police reportedly found 0.1 grams of cocaine among four containers in his car, according to the report.

White was transported to Shands Hospital for strained breathing and a rapid heartbeat. Police believe he ate an unknown amount of cocaine before the chase, GPD spokesman Ben Tobias wrote in an email.

White was convicted of eight unarmed robberies on Jan. 28, 2008, according to the report. Since 2012, he was also found guilty on various charges including domestic battery, possession of a weapon and resisting an officer, according to Alachua County court records.

Police arrested White on charges of cocaine possession, resisting an officer, habitually driving with a suspended license and two counts of resisting an officer.

Authorities took him to the Alachua County Jail where, as of press time, he remains in lieu of a $20,000 bond.
