After more than three months between nomination hearings, UF Student Government now has its entire Executive Branch agency heads approved.
The Student Senate approved the final six agency leaders by unanimous consent at Tuesday’s meeting — the final of the Summer semester — which ended a 105-day drought between nomination hearings.
“I think all of us, SG exec, took a long time compromising, but we compromised and it turns a new leaf here in Student Government,” Student Body President Joselin Padron-Rasines said.
The six agency heads — Kevin Gerson (Accent), Gabrielle Beecher (Action SG), Austin Young (Chomp the Vote), Matthew Hoeck (External Affairs), Robert Finigan (Student Government Productions) and Dillon Knox (Student Government Production comptroller) — were unanimously nominated by the six-person executive committee.
“That is a huge accomplishment,” Student Senate President Davis Bean said. “And I am glad for us to go ahead and get started on those.”
Two election commissioners — Matthew Lastinger and Brian Sullivan — and 71 seats spanning 24 university committees were also approved during the meeting without opposition.
Budget approved
The Senate approved the more than $20.7 million Activity and Service Fee Budget for the 2016-2017 academic year by a vocal majority Tuesday.
The budget represents a 3.3-percent increase from the $20 million budget for the 2015-2016 year.
“There were small cuts where cuts could be made, fitting that vision of providing services that are unique to the University of Florida and also keeping the cost of education low,” said Budget and Appropriations Chairman Smith Meyers.
