As of Saturday, the Newberry branch library now offers a Snuggle Up Center, Teen Space and several other additions.
The library, located at 110 S. Seaboard Drive, received $50,000 in funding from the Alachua County Library District to renovate and expand the library, according to a press release.
The renovations and 3,200-foot expansion were celebrated Saturday with a ribbon cutting, library tours and family activities.
In addition to the two new designated centers, the library also added 1,200 books, two more computer stations, two study rooms, a quiet reading room and a renovated meeting room, Shaney Livingston, the Alachua County Library District director, wrote in an email.
The Snuggle Up Center provides an area for children and parents to spend time together while learning and participating in educational activities, Livingston said. The Teen Space offers an area for students to study, play games, read and participate in activities like drawing workshops and book club meetings.
Bill Conrad, mayor of Newberry, said the library’s renovation and expansion is a great success for the entire community because the facility is a center point for the Newberry and Jonesville area.
“In a small town like Newberry, it gives us a gathering place and a community center,” Conrad said.
