UF President Kent Fuchs’ goal-setting task force has finished its first task.
The 17-person committee, led by Fuchs’ executive chief of staff Winfred Phillips, released six overarching draft goals Thursday evening on the Office of the President’s website.
The goal of the task force is to gather information in order to set the university’s goals for the next five to 10 years.
The six goals, as directly stated on the website, are for the university to have:
— an exceptional community of students, faculty, and staff that embraces breadth of thought and experience in support of university goals through cultural, racial, gender, geographic and all aspects of diversity
— an outstanding and accessible education that prepares students for work, citizenship and life
— faculty recognized as preeminent by their students and peers
— alumni who are successful in their careers and in life and who are proud to be graduates of UF
— growth in scale and depth of basic and translational research and scholarship that enhances fundamental knowledge and impacts the lives of the world’s citizens
— a physical infrastructure and efficient administration and support structure that enable preeminence
The draft goals will remain online until Aug. 7 for all to review. Anyone who wishes to comment on the goals may do so on the webpage or by emailing goal-setting@ufl.edu.
The committee’s next step will be drafting objectives and metrics to determine how to accomplish these six goals.
“The wonderful part about all of this is that the university was already on what I call this trajectory of being stronger every year,” Fuchs said. “So all we’re doing is deciding how we can continue that and what it takes to get to the next level in terms of our international image.”
