On Tuesday afternoon, Gainesville Police found and arrested the suspect involved in the June 3 stabbing at Motel 6.

Investigations led police to Neil Lloyd Krause, 49, who reportedly slashed another man on the back with a knife, Gainesville Police spokesman Officer Ben Tobias wrote in an email. The fight was reportedly over drug money and occurred in the Motel 6 parking lot, located at 4000 SW 40th Blvd.

Krause told officers he stabbed the other man in self defense, Tobias said. However, he did not have any injuries on his face or body.

Krause also admitted to police that he was high on crack cocaine at the time of the argument, Tobias said.

After the fight, the victim was taken to the Shands Emergency Room with non-life-threatening injuries, Tobias said. The cut on his back was about two feet in length and required 20 staples.

Officers arrested Krause on one charge of aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability. He was taken to the Alachua County Jail where he remained as of press time in lieu of a $40,000 bond.
