The Florida women’s golf continued to struggle in the NCAA Regional in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The Gators dropped from ninth place on day one to a tie for 10th after the second round of play.
As a team, UF shot 19-over par, 307 in the second round.
“Today certainly wasn’t the round we were looking for,” coach Emily Glaser said in a release. “The course played tough today, but a lot of mistakes we made were of our own doing, including poor course management. We made too many big numbers to be competitive today.”
Sophomore Karolina Vlckova was the only player on the team who improved her score on the second. Vlckova shot a 1-over, 73 and is 3-over for the tournament after 36 holes of play. She is in a five-way tie for 14th on the leaderboard.
Senior Anna Young, who had the best score for the Gators after the first round, gave three shots back in the second round and is now at 4-over par and in a tie for 19th.
Freshman Taylor Tomlinson struggled mightily on the second day. The Gainesville native shot a 9-over, 81 with two double bogeys, seven bogeys and two birdies. Tomlinson dropped 42 spots on the leaderboard after her performance and is now in a tie for 63rd.
Sophomore Maria Torres shot a 6-over, 78 for the second consecutive day. Torres had one double bogey and four bogeys on her day. She recorded no birdies and had 13 pars and is 12-over and is in a tie for 67th.
Camilla Hedberg had another poor day at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course at NC State.
The senior shot a 9-over, 81 and is in a tie for 90th. In what might be her last collegiate tournament, Hedberg is struggling on the course. She had seven bogeys, only two birdies and recorded a quadruple bogey on the 7th hole.
No. 4 South Carolina overtook the lead from No. 7 LSU after the second round. As a team, the Gamecocks shot 2-under and they hold an eight-shot lead over Alabama entering the final round.
Only the top six teams in the field advance to the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship. Florida is going to need a lot of work if it has any shot of moving on in the final day of play.
“We are a good team and tomorrow we need to prove that by not beating ourselves and capitalizing on the opportunities we get,” Glaser said. “It’s important for us to focus on what we can control tomorrow and see what happens.”
