The Florida women’s tennis team finished its last regular season road match yesterday afternoon when it faced off with a Top-10 contender.

The No. 6 Florida Gators (18-2, 10-1 Southeastern Conference) ended its thirteen-match winning streak after falling to No. 8 Vanderbilt (15-5, 10-1 SEC), 4-1 at the Brownlee O. Currey Jr. Tennis Center in Nashville, Tennessee on Easter Sunday.

The Gators are no longer perfect in SEC play after losing to the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Entering this contest, UF had clinched the victory against the Commodores at last year’s NCAA Round of 16.

Vanderbilt was the first Top-10 team the Gators faced since its 4-1 victory over then-No. 9 Alabama at the end of February.

In doubles play, the No. 31-ranked Gator duo of Peggy Porter and Josie Kuhlman were defeated by the Vanderbilt pairing of Marie Casares and Frances Altick, 8-5.

The No. 54 doubles pairing of Spencer Liang and Belinda Woolcock dropped their match to 24th-ranked Vanderbilt duo of Ashleigh Antal and Astra Sharma, 8-6.

Florida dropped the early tally at yesterday’s competition, starting singles play trailing Vandy 1-0.

The Gators fell behind 3-0 after a rough start in singles, No. 5 Brooke Austin dropped the match to her opponent No. 12-ranked Sydney Campbell, 3-6, 2-6.

Sophomore Belinda Woolcock was defeated by Maria Casares, 1-6, 3-6.

Junior Brianna Morgan put up a tally on the board for the Florida Gators after downing her opponent 7-6, 6-0.

No. 7-ranked Josie Kuhlman fell short to Vandy’s Sharma after trailing in her first set, 3-6, 4-6.
