Bailey Castro is having the senior year she envisioned.
The Pembroke Pines native is hitting .364 on the season with 11 home runs and 24 RBIs.
Not bad for Castro, considering she came into this season with a .245 career batting average with a career high of eight home runs in a season.
After cruising to a 5-1 win over rival Florida State on Wednesday behind Castro’s two home runs, the No. 3 Florida (37-4, 8-4 Southeastern Conference) softball team returns home this weekend to take on No. 13 Kentucky (27-11, 4-8 SEC).
The two teams didn’t face each other last season, but the Gators took two out of three games the last time the two teams played in 2013.
The Wildcats have a deep pitching staff as they have used four pitchers in the circle this season. Kelsey Nunley and Meagan Prince have made the most starts on the staff as they have started 15 and 13 games respectively.
Nunley also leads the SEC in saves with four.
Christian Stokes is the best hitter in Kentucky’s lineup as she’s hitting .358 on the season with 44 hits and a .569 slugging percentage.
Florida’s senior Lauren Haeger will be one player to watch this weekend as she’s been dominant in the circle.
She leads the SEC in ERA (1.17) and is tied for third with 17 wins.
Haeger is one home run away from tying Megan Bush’s program record of 65.
