In golf, home tournaments are an excellent opportunity to perform at your highest level on a course that brings familiarity; especially when you only have one throughout the season.
For the Gators, they continue to play their best golf of the spring, as they head into the final round of the SunTrust Gator Women’s Golf Invitational in second place.
But despite their high standing on the leaderboard, coach Emily Glaser still believes there is plenty of room for improvement.
“I was hoping that we would do a little bit better,” Glaser said. “We talked a little bit after the round about kind of analyzing what we can improve on tomorrow.”
Some of those adjustments include improving their ball striking and control, which Glaser believes will help shave some strokes.
“A couple of it is management where you’re kind of missing it in the wrong spots, where you’re making it really hard on yourself to save par,” Glaser said.
Sophomore Karolina Vlckova continues to build off of what was a strong Round 1 performance, shooting a spring best one-over-par. Her total score of +5 places her in a tie for second place.
In compliance with her coach, Vlckova recognized that in order to maintain her standing, she must make adjustments heading into Sunday’s final round.
“Be more patient and wait for the opportunities, and then use the opportunities,” Vlckova said.
Along with Vlckova, sophomore Kelly Grassel finished Saturday’s second round in the top five. Grassel, who finished Round 1 with a spring best score of one-over-par, concluded Saturday’s round with a score of five-over-par, putting her in a tie for fourth with Lindsay McGetrick of NC State.
Heading into Sunday’s final round, Florida has an excellent opportunity to place in the top-three for consecutive tournaments, something that has not been done since the 2012-13’ season, when they won both the Betsy Rawls Invitational and the Florida Challenge.
“Our attitudes are really good,” Glaser said. “If we keep that part of it good, then the right things are going to happen, whether that’s tomorrow or down the line this season.”
