President Kent Fuchs attended his first UF Board of Trustees meeting Monday afternoon at Tigert Hall.
The board met to discuss a bond for the University Athletic Association and the integrity of UF’s performance data.
The Committee on Finance and Facilities unanimously approved bonds for an indoor football practice field as well as the renovation and expansion of the Office of Student Life.
Fuchs said the building is a unique addition to the athletic department.
UAA Athletics Director Jeremy Foley said the indoor field would be used when weather interrupts football practice. He said about 30 football practices were affected by weather last Fall.
Foley said the building will have a 120-yard, synthetic turf football field, three camera platforms, equipment storage and restrooms.
The cost of the indoor field is estimated to be $15 million and the renovation of the Office of Student Life to be about $25 million.
“Again, we need a place for our team to practice,” he said.
Also at the meeting, the Committee on Audit and Operations Review unanimously approved a UF performance-based funding data integrity audit report.
In June 2014, the Board of Governors instructed university presidents to act out a performance-based funding certification to prove that the data submitted is accurate and reliable.
