Gainesville’s newest locally owned specialty coffee shop opens Saturday on West University Avenue.
Know Where Coffee, located at 1226 W University Ave, specializes in local coffees and loose-leaf teas. The coffee shop will also sell homemade, organic pastries from Gainesville-based Bearkery Bakery.
Bakery owner Fred Posner said the bakery’s motto is using ingredients a person can pronounce.
Posner’s wife, Yeni Monroy, bakes all pastries and breads from scratch before being shipped.
“Fred and Yeni have the same mentality we have about local ingredients and how food and beverages should be all natural,” said Deyanira Romero, a UF alumna and marketing manager of the coffee shop. “Once we tried the bakery’s selection it was a no-brainer to offer them in our coffee shop.”
At the shop, brewed coffees and teas — as well as cold brew coffee — cost $4. An espresso is $2.75.
Romero’s fiance, Alfonso Guerrero-Villa, also a UF alumnus, owns the store.
“Alfonso and I hope our customers taste the difference in the way local coffee and pastries are prepared,” she said.
Rodrigo Guerrero-Villa, the owner’s brother and a barista for the cafe, is a UF food and resource economics senior.
“I think we will be introducing a new way to experience coffee,” the 21-year-old said. “I am excited to bring this to Gainesville”
The coffee shop is hosting a cupping session this Saturday, hosted by Bold Bean Coffee, a Jacksonville-based coffee roasting company.
