Giggles, ice cream and committee chair appointments made up Tuesday night’s UF Senate meeting.

The new senators unanimously approved committee seats for budget, allocations, judiciary, rules and ethics, and information and communication within the first few minutes of the meeting.

Information and communication chairman Sen. Sean Carey, Swamp, and Rules and Ethics Committee member Sen. Maddie McClinton, Swamp, presented an overview of Senate rules and procedures to the new senators.

McClinton explained to senators that they have to participate in events outside of Senate to interact with their constituents.

“Your role as a senator extends Tuesday nights,” she said.

Following the packed information session, UF Student Senate President Davis Bean, Swamp, announced the new senators would practice passing resolutions about ice cream sundaes to learn parliamentary procedures.

Sen. Jason Richards, Swamp, authored the bill and declared bacon as the official sundae topping for Senate, and no other toppings would be endorsed. Sen. Saneh Ste.Claire, Access, said the resolution should be amended because it excluded vegetarians. Richards replied, “I think everyone loves bacon.”

After the ice cream debate, Senate President Pro-Tempore Sen. Leah Miller, Swamp, urged senators who were not selected to serve on a committee to look into special projects.

The meeting ended with an ice cream social.
