No. 2 Florida will begin a two game series against Fairfield today, with the first matchup scheduled for 7 p.m.
The meeting will be the first ever between the two teams, and both enter at opposite ends of the college baseball spectrum.
The Gators (14-2) are rolling— they have won nine of their last 10 while outscoring their opponents 62-24 over that stretch. Both of their losses have come against ranked opponents — against then-No. 13 UCF on March 3 and versus then-No. 8 Miami on Feb. 21.
Fairfield has only played three games to start its season, all of them losses to UNF. The Stags are hitting .227 and their pitching staff is averaging a 5.27 ERA. Their no. 1 pitcher, right-hander EJ Ashworth, will likely be unavailable tonight after allowing one run on three hits in 4.1 innings last Saturday.
Florida will start right-hander Eric Hanhold, who debuted in the ninth inning last Friday to secure the series opening win against Maine.
Josh Tobias will continue to fill in for Harrison Bader at the cleanup spot after Bader sprained his ankle on Saturday. Coach Kevin O’Sullivan said Bader will return later this week.
