Will Grier warms up prior to Florida's game against Vanderbilt on Nov. 8 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Who has the edge at quarterback?

The battle under center is between sophomore Treon Harris and redshirt freshman Will Grier.

Harris may have an edge thanks to the starting role he earned in the back end of last season, but Grier’s pro style skill set may fit better in McElwain’s scheme.

McElwain confirmed during his pre-spring football press conference that there is no set timetable to name a starting quarterback.

Who will step up at tight end?

Jake McGee was granted a sixth year of eligibility, but the University of Virginia transfer will only be limited to drills with no live action this spring.

The drop off between McGee and the rest of the tight end group is pretty big — the only tight ends with live game reps are redshirt junior Bair Diamond and sophomore DeAndre Goolsby.

Behind those two are early enrollee Daniel Imatorbhebhe, and redshirt freshmen Moral Stephens and C’yontai Lewis.

How big of a void did Dante Fowler Jr. leave?

Fowler declaring for this year’s NFL Draft leaves a pretty big hole at the buck position — UF’s hybrid linebacker/defensive end position.

It’s almost impossible to replace a talent like Fowler, but look for redshirt junior Alex McCalister to try and step into the role.

McCalister was behind Fowler on the depth chart last season but saw a significant role in the defensive line rotation in all 12 games.

He totaled 23 tackles and six sacks — the latter number being good for second on the team behind Fowler.

Outside of the buck position, the defensive line will benefit vastly from getting Bryan Cox Jr. and Jon Bullard back for 2015.

What will the spring game format be like?

Thanks to essentially nonexistent depth on the offensive line, it is unclear whether or not the Orange and Blue Debut will be a full game-type scrimmage.

Florida’s 2013 spring game was more of a walk-through due to limited depth along the offensive line that didn’t allow them to have two full teams.

With senior Trip Thurman out with a shoulder injury, the Gators will have just seven offensive lineman on scholarship during the spring — not to mention only Rod Johnson and David Sharpe took game reps last season.

How much depth will the linebacking corps build?

The lone senior in 2015’s crop of linebackers — Antonio Morrison — will be out for spring due to a knee injury suffered during the Birmingham Bowl in January.

That leaves a lot of room for younger guys to step up and gain valuable reps in spring that could carry over to fall camp.

Juniors Jarrad Davis, Alex Anzalone and Daniel McMillian will likely be in the primary rotation, but look for Jeremi Powell and Matt Rolin to earn valuable reps as well.
