Amanda Butler isn’t leaving Gainesville anytime soon.
The UF women’s basketball head coach signed a two-year contract extension on Wednesday, securing her job through the 2019 season.
The Gators finished the 2014-15 season with a 13-17 record — the program’s worst season-ending mark since Butler took over the program in 2007.
It also marked the first time UF did not reach either the NCAA Tournament or the Women’s National Invitation Tournament since the 2006-07 season — the year before Butler was hired.
"Clearly, the results of last season were not what anyone, including Coach Butler, had hoped," UF athletics director Jeremy Foley said in a release. "That said, I continue to strongly feel that Amanda is the right person to get Florida women’s basketball to be a contender in this league and nationally. She’s a Gator and will keep working tirelessly to elevate this program."
In eight years with Butler at the helm, the UF women’s basketball program has a 153-112 record and has not advanced further than the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Florida has also never won a Southeastern Conference title under Butler, who played her four-year collegiate career at UF from 1990-1994.
"Last season was disappointing for me and Gator Nation," Butler said in a release. "Gator Nation deserves excellence - the very best coaching, student-athletes and results. We will do whatever is necessary to make Florida Women’s Basketball a cornerstone of pride for our University of Florida. I am very excited about what the future holds for our program."
