Swamp Records is having its second annual showcase Friday night.
The free event will be held at The JAM at 817 W. University Ave. and will feature 11 local acts from UF and Gainesville. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m.
“Gainesville has a very rich music history, and we’re just trying to bring some of that back and bring more awareness to it,” said Breana Auberry, president and co-founder of Swamp Records.
Swamp Records artists Bells and Robes, Sidereal, the Savants of Soul and Flat Land will perform at the showcase.
Grant McLeod, the drummer for Flat Land, said that because it’s a free show, he’s looking forward to playing for new people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to make it.
“The best thing about this show is the connection that Swamp Records has made between students and the local music scene,” he said. “There’s always been a gap.”
Flaco's Cuban Bakery and Coffee, Grooveshark, Red Bull and other local start-up companies will offer goodies and refreshments, according to a press release.
Attendance last year was about 500 people, Auberry said, and this year’s turnout is expected to have hundreds more.
Mary Patterson, a UF advertising junior, attended last year’s showcase and said she was excited to go again this year.
“My favorite part of (last year’s showcase) was that it brought students from all different backgrounds together under a common love for great music,” the 20-year-old said, “and that's such a beautiful thing.”
