Two women were hospitalized at UF Health Shands Hospital on Wednesday after their scooter collided with a car at the intersection of Southwest 19th Avenue and Southwest 34th Street.

Just after 4 p.m., the driver of the scooter was in the outside lane headed south on Southwest 34th Street when a beige Chevrolet Cobalt turned left toward Southwest 19th Avenue in front of the scooter. The scooter then crashed into the side of the car, causing lanes to close for investigation.

Both the driver and the passenger of the scooter were taken to Shands. The driver, who was visiting from out of town, remains in critical condition in ICU at Shands. Her passenger had non-life-threatening injuries.

No other injuries were reported.

Police are investigating the incident, but no charges have been filed as of press time.

Authorities did not release the names of any of the people involved.
