After performing in festivals as raucous as Lollapalooza, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros are taking control on Flavet Field.
Grammy Award-winning band Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros are performing a free concert at 7:30 p.m. tonight on Flavet Field, hosted by Student Government Productions.
Electro-pop band The Knocks will be the opening performance.
SGP co-chairman Brad Wheeler said most of the organization’s events are free or reduced price.
“All of (SGP’s) concerts are going towards the students so that they could experience different genres of music and different acts around campus,” Wheeler, a 20-year-old UF mechanical engineering junior, said.
Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros are known for the platinum-selling song, “Home,” and their sound could be described as indie-folk.
Whitney Congress, SGP head director of public relations, wrote in an email the two bands will pump up the crowd.
“We think the mix of genres (electronic and indie-folk) will be a crowd pleaser for everyone’s music tastes,” said Congress, a 21-year-old UF public relations senior.
