An all-female comedy improvisation group by the name of Cat Ladies will be putting on a show at the Reitz Union on Friday night.
The comedy show, sponsored by Reitz Union Board Entertainment’s Speakers and Comedians Committee and Gator Nights, includes actresses and comedians Marcy Jarreau, Madeline Walter and Nicole Byer from MTV’s “Girl Code.” The free event will begin at 9 p.m. in the Reitz Union Grand Ballroom. Students are required to bring their Gator 1 Card and are allowed to bring two guests each.
James Jimenez, co-director of the Speakers and Comedians Committee, said one can expect the type of humor Byer brings to “Girl Code,” such as relationship and situational humor.
“We thought that with Nicole, it would be the type of act that would really work with a college student atmosphere,” Jimenez said.
Speakers and Comedians has previously featured stand-up comedians and improv groups, but this is the first time a recognized female comedian like Byer has been brought in, Jimenez said.
The committee expects 200 to 300 people to attend the event.
“We try to cater to everyone’s interest, so we thought it would be really interesting to bring in an all-female group and represent that side of comedy that doesn’t get enough representation,” Jimenez said.
The committee would not disclose information about the cost to bring Byer to UF.
Natalie DelRocco, a 19-year-old UF animal sciences freshman, expressed excitement when she heard an all-female group will be performing.
“Now, I think there are definitely more female comedians that come to mind,” DelRocco said. “So I do believe the gap (between male and female comedians) is closing.”
Nicole Byer of MTV’s “Girl Code” will be at the Reitz Union Grand Ballroom Friday at 9 p.m. as part of the all-female trio comedy improv group, Cat Ladies.
