The hunt for a new dean for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ has kicked off, taking the search nationwide.
Minimum qualifications for the position include a doctorate degree, academic achievements, teaching experience and research that is “worthy of appointment as professor with tenure,” according to the job description.
UF spokeswoman Janine Sikes said the search committee expects to look at the first applications in mid-January.
“On-campus interviews will then be in mid-February,” she said.
The new dean will replace interim dean David Richardson, who is a professor in the department of chemistry.
The new dean will oversee majors including the natural, physical and mathematical sciences and humanities as well as social and behavioral sciences.
Carmen Lopez-Ramirez, a 21-year-old UF Spanish senior, said she looks forward to having a new dean but hopes some changes will be brought to the college with the new hire. Scholarships are a big concern for Lopez-Ramirez.
“I hope the new dean will bring new and brighter opportunities for students in CLAS,” she said. “Even though we’re the largest college, we’re often left behind on many scholarships.”
