A man from Chiefland was arrested Thursday evening after police said they found materials used to make crystal methamphetamine inside his car.

Police received a tip regarding a black Nissan Titan with materials used to make crystal meth, according to a report. At Paradise Trailer Park shortly after 5 p.m., officers spotted the truck with Shawn Thorp, 37, and Jennifer Thorp sitting inside. At one point, the woman was seen moving a car door back and forth as if she were trying to air the vehicle out.

When officers opened the truck, they saw a small Butane gas tank on the floor and called the Alachua County Drug Task Force. The task force found about 5 grams of a brown, grainy substance, which tested positive for methamphetamine. He was also found with a knife.

The woman told police she knew the meth was being cooked but said she did not use it.

Shawn Thorpe was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, keeping and maintaining a public nuisance and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. His bond is set at $32,000, and the woman was considered a witness.
