Shoppers are expected to check out online in record numbers this year.
About six in 10 people are expected to take advantage of Cyber Monday deals today, an increase of about 14 percentage points since 2010.
The findings come from the AAA, which compiled a Consumer Pulse Survey to analyze holiday shopping trends. With 91 percent of people expected to participate, the results suggest a busy season this year.
Fourteen percent of participants said they planned on spending more on gifts, a 10 percentage point jump since 2008.
According to a press release from the AAA, the survey also found that about 28 percent of participants wait until the last two weeks of November to purchase gifts.
Retailers attempt to lure in customers earlier each year, according to the release. This benefits of consumers because even though they’re spending more this year, they want a good deal.
The survey also found that participants plan on buying apparel and accessories more than any other type of gift, followed by gift cards, books, toys and jewelry.
UF telecommunication senior Michael Vensamoye said his college budget keeps him frugal for the holidays.
“I’m probably spending about the same as last year, if not a little less,” the 21-year-old said.
