UF is looking to fill one Board of Trustees spot as the application deadline was extended.

The Florida Board of Governors extended the application deadline for the 22 Board of Trustee positions throughout the State University System of Florida until Dec. 17.

UF spokeswoman Janine Sikes said a new seat will open in January, but the Board of Governors is soliciting for applicants now.

Carolyn Roberts will be leaving her position, Sikes said. Roberts is a UF research foundation board of directors member.

Her seat expires Jan. 6.

Roberts was appointed by the Board of Governors to serve UF’s Board of Trustees in 2010.

“She also could be reappointed,” Sikes said.

Of the 10 applicants that have applied for the seat, Roberts is one of them, said Brittany Davis, Board of Governors communication director.

Applicants are not required to live in Florida to serve, but all the new applicants reside in Florida.

The new elected member will have a term running from Jan. 6, 2015 to Jan. 6, 2020.

“The Board is accepting applications for 22 vacancies throughout the State University System, and has extended the deadline to attract the best possible field of candidates,”  Davis wrote in an email.
