Students have issues with XpressConnect; devices lag on WiFi

Students experiencing difficulty with XpressConnect and their Apple or Android devices should look no further than UF’s Computing Help Desk for assistance.

Apple and Android devices are experiencing connectivity problems between device tools and auto configurations, preventing some students from accessing the  WiFi. Some have connected the issues with the timing of the latest Apple updates.

Dan Miller, associate director of network services for UF Information Technology, wrote in an email that it’s unclear which problems have been caused by specific device incompatibility or by issues within the new Apple software.

“It’s Apple’s new product, and, like with all new products rolled out, there are some kinks,” he said.

UFIT is testing a new version of the XpressConnect configuration that may help the issues students are experiencing. Manual configuration is also available for those who are seeking help.

“Manual configuration of the new Apple operating system is very straightforward and covered in online documentation,” Miller said.

Apple users are not the only ones experiencing difficulties. Android users have reported problems with connecting through XpressConnect, too.

Malique Pye, a 21-year-old UF art junior, has experienced problems with his Android phone’s Internet using XpressConnect.

“I’ve been having trouble since last week, but the UF Help Desk was pretty good about walking me through the process of fixing it,” he said. “I’m just glad I can get Internet now.”
