A Gainesville man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after police said he sexually assaulted his girlfriend’s 9-year-old relative.

The young victim told family members and police that while 18-year-old Emanuel Deron Durr was visiting his girlfriend Monday night, he used his fingers to penetrate the girl’s vagina at about 10 p.m., Gainesville Police spokesman Ben Tobias wrote in an email.

The girl did not tell anyone about the incident until the following day, and her family reported it immediately, Tobias said.

When Durr was arrested, officers also found about half a gram of marijuana. He was arrested on charges of sexual battery on a minor and marijuana possession. His bond is set at $760,000.

♣ ♣ ♣

Four men were arrested early Thursday after police said they stole electronics, hand tools, modeling kits, a box of darts and some ammo out of a parked car.

The group — including 20-year-old Jajuan Lee Pate, 26-year-old Lashawn Jerome Lewis, 19-year-old Jalen Jacori Sheppard and 23-year-old Cortez Mondrain McCabe — knocked over a scooter at Campus View Apartments at about 12:30 a.m., Tobias said. A witness saw them entering a vehicle in the parking lot, taking things out and putting them in the trunk of another car.

They then drove away, but the witness gave police the vehicle’s tag number. When police saw the car enter Oxford Terrace II Apartments, the men quickly drove away after they noticed the officers. They were then stopped at 600 SW 3rd St. Police searched the car and found the stolen items, which included an iPad and two hand sanders.

All four men were arrested on charges of grand theft and burglary on an unoccupied vehicle. All bonds are set at $45,000.
