Last night the time finally came to say my goodbyes to friends and family before I fly across the pond. In a fitting tribute to America, I hosted a leaving party where guests were on a strict dress code to wear only red, white and blue.
As the burgers were grilling and the tunes of Don McLean and Bruce Springsteen rang through the house, I caught up with old friends and family.
Of course it wouldn’t be a British barbecue if there wasn’t any rain. Sure enough, we were met with torrential rain that lasted most of the evening. Us Brits certainly know how to make the best of bad weather, though, and it wasn’t long before we were sat outside, on damp chairs, surrounding a fire pit reminiscing on old times and what is to come.
The big move is fast approaching and at the moment I’m a bundle of nerves and excitement. As sad as I’ll be to say goodbye to familiar faces here in England, I can’t wait to begin the next two years in Gainesville.
If last night is anything to go by, it may not be long before we see an influx of British spectators at a Gators game.
