If you’ve been waiting to go next-generation in the video gaming world (the Wii U doesn’t count), the time is now. Your system? The Xbox One.
Why the Xbox One? It’s easy. June has a whole lot going for the Xbox gaming world. Microsoft has been doing something called “Games With Gold” which allows Xbox Live Gold members, the premium subscribers to the service, the ability to download two free games per month.
For more than a year this has been going on with the Xbox 360, but beginning this month the Xbox One has jumped on board with “Halo: Spartan Assault” and “Max: The Curse of Brotherhood.” The deal ends at the end of June but there are still many days left to get on this deal. (You can also go to Xbox.com if you have a Xbox Live account and queue these games to download now, even if you don’t have a Xbox One yet, so when you do you can have these games).
More than just the free games, the Xbox One has dropped in price because there is now a Kinect-free version. The Kinect, which allows for both motion and voice controls, was originally packaged with the Xbox One as a single unit. Now, Microsoft has created a Kinect-free version to appease the consumers who don’t have quite as much money or who don’t want the Kinect at all.
The best method to go, though, is buying the Xbox One with the Kinect because the full-retail game Titanfall comes free with it. Titanfall is the first Xbox-exclusive shooter for the next-generation. An online-only shooter, Titanfall made big waves in the gaming community when it was released back in March (and, as a player of Titanfall, I can honestly say it is one of the best games on the Xbox One).
Right now you can get the Xbox One with a Kinect, Titanfall, and two more free games for the price of the system at release, or you can get the Xbox One and two free games for the price of a Playstation 4. With E3 just finishing up and all the new games that were announced, it’s time to get into the next-generation now and Xbox is the way to go hands down.
If you’re looking for a gaming system that also brings you the ease of streaming, Xbox One is the best to go with the Kinect. With simple voice commands like “Xbox Pause” you can pause any movie or TV show without the need of a controller.
The Playstation 4 has its moments. The games might look a tad bit better and with Playstation Plus you’re getting free games every month as well, but these games are mostly just indy titles and not big name games.
Games are what sell consoles and the PS4 currently has nothing. E3 did not do Sony any justice either as most announcements weren’t about new games. They were either reboots or sequels. Nothing came across like the Halo: Master Chief Collection (all four original Halo games remastered for the Xbox One at the price of $60). Sony was stomped by Microsoft to the point of absurdity.
The laziness level can be kicked up to the maximum with an Xbox One, and after a long day of classes, who doesn’t look forward to being a little bit lazy? If you’re looking for next-generation but haven’t made the jump yet, June is your month and the Xbox One is your system.
