Could we be seeing Kendall and Kylie Jenner's new book on the big screen?
Let's hope not.
In recent Kardashian/Jenner news, the two sisters were so desperate to have something on their resume to offset Keeping Up With the Kardashians that they decided to write a book- a science fiction book. But, let us not forget that they didn't actually write the book all on their own.
They enlisted in the help of what many call a "ghost writer" (someone who would write the book based on their ideas and then mysteriously disappear from all conversation). Thank you, Maya Sloan, for attempting to write the wrong that is Rebels: City of Indra: The Story of Lex and Livia. The key word here? Attempting.
I read the first chapter of the book via MTV's website and it was not for me. But I encourage people who are interested in the story to read the excerpt and decide for yourselves. It's not my place to entirely discredit the book purely because of its authors- even if one of them did recently claim, to be the worst reader.
I tried to read the chapter objectively and pick out what I liked and disliked. I liked that the book is about females that are seeking a better life for themselves instead of just accepting the hand they were dealt at birth. That aspect is something I will always enjoy in a book.
On the other hand, I really don't like that the book completely lacks originality and emotional depth. It's like the story lines from The Hunger Games and The Prince and The Pauper combined together. I also had difficulty understanding and relating to the characters; there was so much terminology to digest in just the first chapter that I didn't get an accurate portrayal of Livia's character and her emotions. I felt like made-up words were being thrown at me with the expectation of me knowing their meaning- it felt completely unnatural.
In a recent interview the eldest Jenner sister, Kendall, talked about the process of developing the storyline saying she and Kylie thought about what they wanted to see in a movie and worked from there. This led me to wonder if a movie deal might be in the works. Further into my train of thought, I wondered if this was their intent all along: to make a movie that would one-up their sister's famous sex tape. I admit I got a little ahead of myself- truthfully, nothing could do that.
It is interesting to think about the recent correlation between literature and Hollywood. It seems even a cookbook could be made into a movie. It's hard to admit, but these days a Rebels movie may be possible.
