UF group to release English-Spanish magazine, 'Communicate'

The UF Hispanic Communicators Association is releasing a new, English-Spanish magazine called Communicate that will focus on communications with a broad focus of Hispanic issues.

The release date is April 18, and the magazine will be available in print and online. The online version will feature photos, videos and other multimedia work submitted by students.

The magazine was created in hopes of giving students experience publishing their work and learning more about the Hispanic community, said Stephanie Bechara, the 24-year-old graduate student adviser of the club.

“The only thing that we have on campus that gives student that platform is Noticias WUFT, the radio show,” she said. “We can have students report in their own language about things they love and really cater to Latinos in the community.”

The magazine, funded by Student Government, has a budget of $1,000. HCA is planning to print 500 copies to start with, Bechara said.

Andrea Rinaldi, a 21-year-old public relations senior and president of the organization, said she is optimistic for the magazine and wants to see it continue for years after she graduates.

“We all want the same thing,” she said. “We all want to be heard. We all want to show people who we are and what we represent.”
