The “Richmeister” is coming to campus.
Rob Schneider, the star of movies such as “The Animal,” “Hot Chick” and “Deuce Biaglow Male Gigalo,” will be at UF on March 27 as part of the Inter-Residence Hall Association’s annual Residence Hall Week.
The event, IRHAPalooza: a Night of Comedy, will be at the Curtis M. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
IRHA worked with a third party that was in contact with celebrity agents to determine who to pick, said Rachel Stern, IRHA vice president.
“We went back and forth with the different options and who we thought would appeal to the college audience the most,” said the 22-year-old UF telecommunication senior who is overseeing Residence Hall Week.
“It was unanimous Rob Schneider would be the best bet,” Stern said.
IRHA will pay Schneider $30,000 for his appearance.
Tickets are free for both students and the public.
Ticket pick-up for UF students will be at the Phillips Center March 26 at noon, and tickets for the general public will be given out one hour before the show begins.
There is a limit of two tickets per student.
Johnny Efstathiades, a 20-year-old UF applied physiology and kinesiology junior, will be attending the event with a group of friends from an improv and sketch comedy club, Theatre Strike Force.
“I’m excited, especially as part of an improv club, to show people that comedy is fun and within people’s reach if they want to try it out,” Efstathiades said.
The theme of this Residence Hall Week is Cirque Du IRHA.
Residence Hall Week consists of seven events raising money for IRHA’s philanthropy, Jungle Friends.
In line with the theme of the week, there will be an IRHA Carnival with a ride, games and food.
Caylin Lewandowski, 18-year-old UF speech pathology freshman, said she will attend because she is a fan of the movies Schneider has been in.
“I find him hysterical, and I’m so impressed with UF for having him at our school,” Lewandowski said.
