UF majors fair makes minor location change to Plaza of the Americas

Students will have a new place to find themselves this year.

For the first time, UF’s annual Majors & Minors Fair will be on the Plaza of the Americas. Sponsored by the Career Resource Center and the Student Government Academics Cabinet, the event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday.

CRC assistant director for marketing and communications Dana McPherson said the fair was previously held on the Reitz Union Colonnade, but organizers had to find a new location because of the construction.

Angel Iverson, CRC assistant director of career events, said the plaza was chosen because of the high volume of student traffic.

“I expect the same amount of traffic as last time, especially since we’re doing a lot of promoting,” she said.

Andy Escobar, a 22-year-old UF food and resource economics senior, said he feels the same way about the location.

“I think it might actually increase the number of students who show up because Plaza of the Americas is a bit more centrally located,” he said.

Representatives from more than 45 colleges and departments will be in attendance to answer questions from students about possible courses of study.

“We host the fair to give departments the chance to connect with students,” Iverson said, “in order to educate them on majors and minors that are offered that students may not know of.”
