On Wednesday, I exercised my right as a UF student to vote. I wore my “I Voted” sticker as I sat eating at a table in the Reitz Union when a girl walked up to me and asked if she could have my sticker.
Suspiciously, I asked her why. She told me that her friend was in a fraternity and needed to collect ten voting stickers, or else he’d be in trouble. This also happened to me in my first semester of college, but I was asked by a desperate sorority girl instead.
Let me tell you something, Swamp Party. Or should I say, Unite Party? I voted for every single Taco Libre candidate — there were no Students Party members on my ballot — that I could. I will never support the corruption and intimidation tactics that you use against your Greek members.
Next time I vote, I am not giving my sticker to anyone. It is reprehensible that Greeks, who only represent about 20 percent of our Student Body, control our entire governing system. I urge all the minority parties and anyone not involved with these people to stand up to the corruption at our precious university. Know who you are voting for. Know what you are voting for. And for the love of God, don’t support these intimidation tactics by giving up anything even as trivial as a sticker.
