Hannah Rogers has two more credentials to add to her repertoire.
The senior left-handed pitcher became just the second player in UF softball history to accrue 100 wins after allowing just one hit in Florida’s 11-1 mercy rule win against Hawai’i on Friday.
More than a third of those wins came against top-25 opponents. Rogers also on Friday passed Stephanie Brombacher to become No. 2 on Florida’s career strikeout list with 684.
“Anytime you think of Hannah Rogers, you think of somebody who just goes about her business all the time,” coach Tim Walton said in a release. “She gives you a chance to win every time she toes the rubber. … For her to be only the second pitcher in the program’s history to get [100 wins], it says a lot about her and it says a lot about the teams she’s played on.”
Rogers started the game quickly, striking out three batters while not allowing a hit.
But with two outs in the fourth inning, the Lake Wales native gave up her third home run in as many starts when Leisha Li’ili’i slammed the ball into the left field stands.
Despite giving up the score, Florida (8-0) was never in serious trouble of losing the game as it held a 6-0 lead over Hawai’i (4-3) through the top of the fourth inning.
Prior to the game, Rogers’ career was already filled with highlights. After starting her Florida career by setting the freshmen records in seven categories, including wins (36), strikeouts (221) and innings pitched (265.2), Rogers never slowed down.
The three-time All-American also has earned a top-three spot in three categories in addition to wins and strikeouts over her career: most saves (2nd, 12), most complete games (2nd, 81), and most shutouts (3rd, 29).
