Pedro Bravo’s trial, which has been delayed multiple times, has finally gained some certainty.
The trial of the 20-year-old former Santa Fe College student will begin Aug. 4, said State Attorney’s Office spokesman Darry Lloyd. Bravo is accused of murdering UF freshman Christian Aguilar in 2012.
Lloyd said he expects it could last about two weeks. Pretrial hearings will be held July 16.
He said the judge set the August date to make sure all parties will be prepared.
At the most recent case management hearing on Jan. 14, Bravo’s defense attorney, Michael Ruppert, said the legal team was still collecting depositions and wasn’t ready to present in court.
More than 100 witnesses have been interviewed for the case, according to Alligator archives.
Bravo’s charges include homicide, kidnapping, lying to police, mishandling human remains, providing false reports, tampering with physical evidence and poisoning food and/or water with the intent to kill or injure a person, according to court records.
He was arrested in September 2012, four days after Aguilar was reported missing, and he remains at the Alachua County Jail.
