UF students with a taste for adventure and service have the opportunity to hear the acting director of the Peace Corps, Carrie Hessler-Radelet, on Monday.
Hessler-Radelet will visit UF to discuss the Peace Corps and the advantages it provides in today’s job market at 9:30 a.m. in Smathers Library.
“Our acting director is excited to come and visit the university and thank the university for its support,” said Shira Kramer, press director of the Peace Corps. “She travels somewhat frequently, but she’s never been to UF as the head of the agency.”
UF has been a longtime supporter of the Peace Corps, tying with the University of Washington in 2013 for the largest number of Peace Corps recruits from large universities, with 107 undergraduate alumni serving as Peace Corps volunteers.
UF also holds the title of the most graduate students serving in the Peace Corps in 2013 — for the second consecutive year with 26 graduate students volunteering.
Eric Gajentan, a 21-year-old nuclear engineering junior, said he appreciated the opportunity to learn more about the Peace Corps.
