Florida had a rough start to the ITA Men’s Team Indoor Championships.

After dropping the doubles point, the No. 12 Gators could not rally back and fell to No. 5 Ohio State 4-1 in Round 1 of the national meet Friday.

Gordon Watson was the only Gator to win a point for the team. The sophomore defeated OSU’s Herkko Pollanen 6-4, 6-5 (7-5).

Coach Bryan Shelton stated his team just couldn't get its momentum started on the singles court.

“In singles, I felt like we had a good opportunity to get some of those points today,” Shelton said. “We just did not execute in a couple of spots."

Florida didn't show up on the doubles court either,

“In doubles, they [Ohio State] came out and played the bigger points better than we did," Shelton said. "We had some opportunities, but they were able to close the door and hold sure on some big points and we weren’t able to do that."

Florida (3-3) resumes play on Saturday at the Indoor Championships against No. 4 Georgia (3-3) with high hopes for redemption.

“We’ve taken losses to three quality teams and our guys are a little disappointed, but we have to bounce back quickly and get fired up for tomorrow,” Shelton said. “Our guys will be ready to go.”
