The Norman Education Library has shortened its weekend hours during the Spring semester. The library that once remained open until 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday now closes at 5 p.m.
“We wanted to take a look at what our peak hours are,” said Tiffany Baglier, a visiting assistant librarian at the education library. “We realized that the hours that we cut, really we don’t have that many patrons at that time.”
The education library staff decided those excess hours were unnecessary due to lack of students studying and librarians available for assistance.
For now, staff members plan on using the new schedule of hours this Spring as a trial. A permanent decision on the hours of the library in future semesters will not be made until the end of the semester, Baglier said.
But some students may find these changes inconvenient.
“Six was already super early, and it’s right by my house so it was really nice to go there and to not have to go all the way to Library West,” said Jeff Diamond, a 21-year-old UF biology junior.
For students like Diamond who live east of Southwest 13th Street, the education library is the closest study spot.
“I think I’ll go to West more than Norman now,” Diamond said. “That’s going to suck because there is going to be more people there, and it’ll be crowded.”
