Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a local man Monday night who became belligerent after drinking bottles of cough syrup and large amounts of caffeine.

Deputies arrested 41-year-old Larry Laverne Montgomery on charges of domestic battery, according to an arrest report.

At about 10:30 p.m., deputies responded to a call that a man was yelling at several cars in the parking lot of Bellamay Grand Apartments, at 2625 SW 75th St., according to a report.

When deputies arrived, Montgomery told them he drank cough syrup, several Red Bull energy drinks and a large amount of coffee. He was acting extremely intoxicated and yelling randomly, according to the report.

Montgomery’s daughter came out of the apartment to try to calm him down. He grabbed and held her hair, pulling out a black knit hair cap in the process, according to the report.

Officers booked Montgomery into the Alachua County Jail at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

He was released at about 2 p.m. Tuesday after meeting a $2,500 bond.
