After a flurry of transfers, two players joined the Florida football team.
The school announced the signing of 6-foot-5, 318-pound offensive lineman Drew Sarvary on Wednesday. The Tallahassee native formerly played at Tyler (Texas) Junior College and was named a First Team All-Southwest Junior College Football Conference selection.
"We are excited to have Drew join the Gator football program," coach Will Muschamp said in a press release.
Sarvary began his career at Florida A&M, where he started 11 games as a true freshman before transferring to Tyler.
The junior plans to enroll in January and will have two years of eligibility.
Sarvary joins a depleted offensive line that will lose redshirt seniors Jon Halapio and Jon Harrison to graduation, and redshirt junior Ian Silberman, redshirt freshman Quinteze Williams and true freshman Trevon Young to transfer.
The Gators will also add former Virginia Tech kicker Brooks Abbott, who announced his intention to transfer via Twitter, saying he would “Be [at UF] in June.”
Abbott, a Jacksonville native, will receive preferred walk-on status with the Gators. He did not attempt a field goal with the Hokies but did play on kickoffs.
Florida struggled with field goals in 2013, making only 12 of 22 attempts.
Most of the misses fell on redshirt freshman Austin Hardin — the only scholarship kicker on the team. Hardin missed eight field goals in 12 attempts.
Redshirt junior Frankie Velez will also compete for the job. Velez made six of his eight tries in 2013.
