I’m not quite sure I understand the author’s beef with Accent Speaker’s Bureau.
Is it that Islam on Campus, an organization that he is a part of, chose not to sponsor the Chomsky speech?
Is he upset that Accent chose not to sponsor the Chomsky speech, or is he upset that Accent advised the IOC not to sponsor the Chomsky speech?
Either way, it seemed like the rambling and disgruntled complaints of yet another college student that calls foul after things didn’t turn out the way he wanted.
It is no secret that Accent Chairman Daniel Landesberg is a member of the fraternity Alpha Epsilon Pi.
While I don’t agree with “legacy positions,” I blame the Student Body more than I blame the University of Florida Greek system.
First, people need to vote and vote consistently.
The Greeks, regardless of the methods used, consistently get their members to vote in Student-Body elections and therefore are consistently represented in positions of power in Student Government.
Second, contrary to popular belief, it is not hard to get involved in SG.
Accent, for example, required a simple application with some free-response questions.
I was accepted, with no Greek affiliation or “connections” to SG.
Boohoo, IOC didn’t sponsor Chomsky’s speech, but he still came and I’m sure the author of the article enjoyed it just the same.
Let’s not cry over spilt milk.
