News racks in Turlington Plaza have recently been filling up — but not with newspapers.
Since Student Government did not renew The New York Times subscription, a number of modular distribution units across campus are empty.
Unauthorized distributors have been using the racks without applying for permission from UF Business Affairs, which regulates who can place material in the units, according to UF Regulation 2.003. However, Bob Miller, associate vice president of Business Affairs, said there are currently no unprocessed applications, and the fliers in these boxes may be unauthorized.
“We have an employee that removes fliers or any graffiti and takes unauthorized materials down,” he said.
However, Ellis Starkey, a 20-year-old UF telecommunication junior, said people should take advantage of the circumstances.
“If the boxes are only meant for newspapers, then people handing out fliers should be prepared to vacate the space when it’s rented back out again,” she said.

Turlington Plaza’s news racks have recently been filling up with fliers and documents without permission from UF Business Affairs. The campuswide New York Times subscription was not renewed by Student Government, leaving the racks devoid of their intended publications.
