The Fall batch of senators broke the habit of approving recommendations and bills unanimously at Tuesday night’s Student Senate meeting.
The Allocations Committee chair nomination was singled out from the block of Replacement and Agenda Committee recommendations that were unanimously approved at the beginning of the meeting.
One senator took issue with the nomination of Sen. Davis Bean for the allocations chair position. Bean had no previous experience on the committee.
Senate President Pro Tempore and Replacement and Agenda Committee chair Elliot Grasso said committee members selected Bean for his experience on the Budget and Appropriations Committee and various fee committees.
“His ideas really made him stand out as a great candidate,” Grasso said.
During the allotted presentation time, Bean declined to speak on his own behalf.
Sen. Michael Christ said he believed allocations vice chair Liz Kleinfeld, who also applied for the position, was a better fit.
“I felt when we’re looking for an allocations chair, we should look to the committee first,” Christ said.
In a vote, two nays failed to negate the broad majority of yeas, and Bean was appointed allocations chair.
Sen. Liz Kleinfeld said she did not review Bean’s qualifications.
“I was obviously trying to go for it, but I don’t have a comment,” she said.
