Florida finished on top Sunday on the final day of the Bedford Cup at the Ring Tennis Complex.

Senior Olivia Janowicz won the singles championship, and the freshmen duo of Kourtney Keegan and Belinda Woolcock captured the doubles title.

Janowicz battled against Woolcock in her singles victory. Woolcock jumped out early in the first set, but it was not long before Janowicz found her rhythm and won four consecutive games. Janowicz defeated Woolcock 6-4, 6-4.

“I had a good weekend here,” Janowicz said. “It was obviously really tough playing a teammate. She’s a really good player.

“She’s had some really good results so far and so I knew going into the match it was going to be tough, but I pulled it out in the end. We both played a really great match. It was fun.”

In the all-Gators doubles finals, Kourtney Keegan and Woolcock defeated Janowicz and Stefani Stojic 8-5. The match featured seven breaks of serve with each Gator losing her serve at least once during the match.

“I really liked what I saw from our doubles,” coach Roland Thornqvist said. “We played aggressive tennis and were looking to move at the net and those are the things we talk about daily when we do doubles drills. I was happy to see that we were able to execute that in real live-match play.”

The doubles showdown was also an opportunity for Thornqvist to see how his freshmen play in finals pressure.

“Our freshmen just need to play,” Thornqvist said. “They need to play a lot of matches and point. Now, I think we have an idea of their tendencies and what they like to do and we have a lot of little things we can work on.”

Stojic fell in her consolation singles semifinal match 6-2, 6-3 to FGCU’s Sarah Means, who went on to win the draw. Stojic didn’t have much luck in this match; she started down 5-1 in the first set.

She found her momentum in the second set where she jumped 2-0, but Means won the next three games and went on to win the match.

Next on the schedule for the Gators is a trip to Athens, Ga., where they will compete in the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships.
