The Florida Cicerones perform a flash mob dance on Turlington Plaza on Monday afternoon as promotion for its Fall forum. The forum will take place at 6 p.m. today in Emerson Alumni Hall.

The Florida Cicerones, the official student ambassadors to the university, performed a flash mob at about 12:35 p.m. Monday on Turlington Plaza in preparation for their Fall forum today at 6 p.m. in Emerson Alumni Hall.

About 40 people danced to a mash-up of songs.

Travis Dobler, a 20-year-old UF advertising junior and the Cicerones recruitment co-chair, said the theme for this year’s recruitment, “Cicerones Unfiltered,” is all about capturing the Cicerones and what the organization represents.

“We wanted to show people who we are in a transparent light,” he said.

The Cicerones host Fall and Spring forums during the year.

Dobler said he expects the Fall forum to attract a few hundred students.

Melissa Mendez, a 22-year-old UF management graduate student and the Cicerones recruitment co-chair, said she choreographed the performance to get students excited about the Fall forum.

“It’s the first time we invite potential new members to our home,” she said.

The forum will give interested students a chance to meet current members of the organization while moving through different rooms in Emerson.

Emily Nelson, a 21-year-old UF advertising senior and the head recruitment chair for the Cicerones, said she wanted a different way of advertising the forum.

“We want to give students information in a better way than just an information session,” she said.
